Rant on identity politics
While I disagree with Andrew Tate style "manosphere" I do think
progressive gender politics greatly contributed to the polarization
among young people. Contemporary progressivism operates on a strict
oppressor-oppressed paradigm. Whites the oppressors, POCs the
oppressed. Christians the oppressors. Muslims the oppressed. Israelis
the oppressors, Palestinians the oppressed. Straights the oppressors,
gays the oppressed. And yes, men the oppressors, women the oppressed. That paradigm leaves no room for nuance and turns off many people,
especially those who labeled "oppressors" along several of these lines,
e.g. straight white men. No large number of people would be listening to "manosphere influencers"
if liberal identity politics hadn't turned large number of men away by
treating them with outright scorn. [1]
Had Trump not been elected in 2016 I’d think things would be less polarized. Trump brought populist
policies back to American Politics that we haven’t seen in a while. When
one side goes this direction the other side responds in the same
fashion the other way. Trump’s rhetoric and message is not unifying.
It’s powerful, it can rally support, it can win elections and it has led
to a shift in our American Political System with the Republican Party
rejecting neoliberalism and forming a new coalition of states and groups
which would not have happened if Trump was never elected. The Democrats
now have to build a similar coalition of states and groups to counter
this or their party will break apart like the Whigs did in 1860 before
some new party forms to challenge the Republicans. We’ve seen this
happen a few times before. No Trump means none of this is possible.
Neoliberalism and foreign intervention remains the policy and ideology
of both parties. Perhaps we see a shift towards an isolationist/America
First ideology like in our timeline but it happens much more gradually
and slowly. Neoliberalism dies a slow and painful death opposed to Trump
just outright killing it over a 8 year period. [2]
